Airdrop

An airdrop sends tokens to many wallets for free. Projects do it to reward early users, spread out the supply or get attention. Sometimes the tokens land in your wallet automatically; sometimes you have to claim them on the project's site and sign a transaction.

In memecoin circles, though, the word more often means bait. Unknown tokens or NFTs show up in your wallet with a link to a site where you can supposedly cash them in. Those sites ask for a signature that gives them access to your funds. Fake X accounts announcing an airdrop from a well-known project, with a link to a copy of its site, are common too.
