Copycat ticker

Also: copycat token, fake token

A copycat is a token that copies the name, ticker, logo and sometimes even the description and links of a well-known memecoin. Creating one on a launchpad takes a minute, and tickers are not unique, so every big launch spawns dozens of copies. Only one thing tells them apart: the contract address.

Copycats feed on haste. Someone hears about a new token, types the ticker into a DEX search and buys the first result, which turns out to be a copy with thin liquidity, a honeypot or a token whose creator is ready to sell. Copies also show up in replies under official posts, on fake profiles impersonating the project and in search ads.
