How memecoins work on Solana
Most Solana memecoins start on a launchpad. On pump.fun a token is created in minutes and first trades on a bonding curve, where the protocol takes 1.25% per trade in total. Once the curve is bought out, the token migrates to a PumpSwap pool, where the fee falls from 1.25% to 0.30% as market cap grows. Other launchpads such as LetsBonk run alongside, and pools also appear on DEXs such as Raydium and Meteora.
The network's base fee is 5,000 lamports per signature. At busy times a priority fee is added, which the wallet or terminal sets for you. To trade you need a wallet that supports Solana, such as Phantom, and a little SOL for fees.
Risks: only a few percent of pump.fun tokens ever complete the curve, and the first minutes after launch belong to bots. A token can keep an active mint authority or freeze authority, and the Token-2022 permanent delegate extension can move or burn tokens from any account. Always compare the full mint address, not the ticker.

FAQ
What does a Solana memecoin trade cost?
Three parts: the network fee (5,000 lamports per signature plus an optional priority fee), the launchpad or DEX fee, and any terminal fee. On the pump.fun bonding curve the protocol takes 1.25% in total, and on PumpSwap between 1.25% and 0.30% depending on market cap. Price impact comes on top and depends on pool liquidity.
What does it mean when a token “migrated” from pump.fun?
At launch the launchpad's bonding curve sets the price. Once the curve is bought out, the collected funds and remaining tokens move into a regular PumpSwap pool, and from then on an AMM pool sets the price. Only a small share of tokens get that far.
How do I check that a Solana token is not a fake?
Compare the full mint address with the project's own channels, not just the ticker. Check the mint authority, freeze authority and Token-2022 extensions. Our new-pairs radar flags tickers that repeat across contracts or copy famous tokens, and the risk report on each token page shows those authorities.
Is the Solana token list a ranking or a recommendation?
No. The “Trending” order comes from the data provider (GeckoTerminal), and “New pairs” are sorted by the newest pool. We do not score tokens or pick the “best” ones. Data may lag, and a new token can lose all its value within minutes. This is not financial advice.
